Problem:
Conveyor belts and crushing equipment were being damaged by tramp iron contaminated coal arriving at the Clairton, PA, USA coke works of
U.S. Steel Corporation.

Suspended Electromagnet was installed above a conveyor that connected a barge unloader and the crushing building. All tramp iron was removed from an average nine-inch (23 cm) burden depth of coal traveling at 596 feet per minute (182 mpm).
