Steel Chips - Processing Solutions

Materials:Steel Chips

Problem:

At Steel Company of Canada's (now STELCO, Inc.) Tube Works in Welland, Ontario, steel plate ranging from 50 to 80 ft. long (15 to 24 m) was milled withh a Linsinger edging machine, squaring and beveling the edges. Each plate was milled in only four or five minutes, but as much as 60 lbs. (27 kg) of chips were produced. Installed on each side of the mill, oscillating conveyors were experiencing frequent breakdowns.

Solution:

Eriez Permanent Magnetic Chip & Parts Conveyors replaced the existing conveyors and reportedly increased machine tool productivity by eliminating jam-ups on the conveyor line. Maintenance costs were significantly reduced while equipment downtime due to conveyor failure was also eliminated.
