Chocolate Candy - Processing Solutions

Materials:Chocolate Candy

Problem:

At Pulakos 926 Chocolates, a leading chocolate candy manufacturer in Erie, PA, USA, four small metal bolts and shims were discovered missing from a chocolate molding plate, immediately following a production run of 25,000 candy bars. Management feared the fasteners might have been molded into some of the candy, now wrapped and boxed.

Solution:

An Eriez E-Z Tec aperture-type Metal Detector was used to first scan the cardboard cases. Those boxes in which the E-Z Tec found metal were opened so the individual candy bars could be passed through the detector. The unit identified the contaminated candy, which was removed from the lot so the order could be quickly repackaged and shipped on time. An E-Z Tec Metal Detector is now a permanent part of their chocolate candy line. Today, the latest model, Eriez' Xtreme Metal Detection line would be recommended for this application.

Problem:

A U.S. manufacturer of hard-shell coated chocolate candy wanted to replace more than 100 feet (30.5 meters) of vibratory conveyors in order to reduce noise and product degradation.

Solution:

Eriez provided four E-Z Slide™ Horizontal Motion Conveyors with drop gates to quietly and gently distribute the candy to points within the plant. Because there is no vertical comnponent to the motion, noise was reduced by 30% and there was no longer any visible product degradation.
