Electrostatic separation relies on the difference in surface conductivity of the materials to be separated. Conductive and nonconductive particles such as chopped wire and computer scrap can be efficiently separated.

Electrostatic separators utilize surface conductivity to recover valuable metals from electronic scrap.

Electrostatic separation relies on the difference in surface conductivity of the materials to be separated. Conductive and nonconductive particles such as chopped wire and computer scrap can be efficiently separated as shown in Figure 1. A negative charge is applied to the material via a corona field. The conductive particles dissipate this charge and are subsequently thrown from the rotor by inertial forces. Nonconductive particles are not able to dissipate the charge and are pinned to the grounded roll surface. The nonconductive particles are subsequently removed from the rotor by a rotary brush and aided by an AC wiper used to negate the charge. The products from a typical chopped wire application are shown in Figure 2.

Electrodes DC � One high-tension pinning electrode and one static-lifting electrode per roll. Each electrode is supported/positioned using the Eriez telescopic electrode-positioning system with quick-change elementdesign. The positioning system provides for single-end adjustment of both electrodes from the operator
access door. The pinning electrode incorporates a pneumatic air-cleaning system. AC � Wiper electrode with optional frequency adjustment for improved roll cleaning.

Roll-Brush System Rotary fiber-brush system with automatic take-up.

Drive Mechanism 1.5HP, variable-speed, AC-drive motor on each roll. A direct-drive system is used on each roll motor. The roll drives are externally mounted to the machine housing to facilitate maintenance.
